National Drug Control Number Interpreting
Inventory System Logistics and Design
We are interested in scanning systems that can be used both to enter medications in the inventory and to deduct medication when it is given out. The mock-up below gives an example of the type of information we imagined the barcode would hold.
Due to the clinic’s unique constraints and number of donations, we think it would be advantageous to create our own barcode system for the medications. We will be able to track all the necessary information about a medication and trace how many pills are coming from each bottle. This will allow us to create an inventory that can easily and accurately maintain a record of the number of pills available for each medication. We also plan to use the inventory to generate Re-Order Reports (lists of drugs that are running out) and Expiration Reports (lists of drugs that expire soon). Re-Order Reports will only need to be created for drugs that are in the clinic’s formulary.
